Dear Younger Me: “Who is the fairest of them all?”

“Dear Younger Me” Chronicles

There once was a girl who found her value in comparing herself to others. She often sized herself up based on those who were “better” and “less than” her. Some days, she felt on top of the world about herself. Other days, she felt worthless, because she saw someone who was better than her in talent, or looks, or personality. When someone put her down, she thought of ways she was better than them to make her feel better about it.
However, she found it strange that even though she sometimes was better than someone else at something, she still felt incomplete. The need to be better than others often demanded finding ways to put others down. The paradox was that even though she was putting others down to feel better about herself, she could never figure out why she just simply couldn’t like herself.

Dear Younger Me,

You have always hoped to be the first pick, “the best,” and have tried so hard to be better than others at what you can accomplish. Life is not a competition, but if you believe that it is, you will always be disappointed. And no matter how hard you try, you will never find satisfaction in being first.
You MUST understand, you will NEVER find your purpose until you give up comparing. Purpose has no path in comparing. Comparison only leads to dead ends. Comparison is an endless black hole that will never be satisfied; it eats everything in it’s path, never giving back, and devouring any ray of light that life has to offer.
Sometimes you will be first, and sometimes you will be last. It’s the lessons that you learn in between that matter more than anything. But no matter what you do, there will always be somebody out there who will be better than you.
You must find peace in being second place in man’s eyes. Discover who you are in God’s eyes.
The minute you stop comparing, is when you can finally become everything you were meant to be. Never forget that you have a purpose. You will wonder for years what it is, but it is so simple that it will astound you: to love, and BE loved.
